Tennessee You got slammed in Nashville - UNC style

Butch Davis and North Carolina Tar Heels not only bent the rules on campus this season for their football team they also did so during the 2010 Music City Bowl game. That was unbelievable! North Carolina gets a break to be able to run plays to the final second. And then some!!!

North Carolina has players running on the field. Too many men on the field! Throw the flag. They have to many people in motion! And then they then snap the ball. The penalty is on the offense so, oops! Game over.

Oh! Wait not so fast! Let's review! We need to help out Butch and the boys. They only get one five yard penalty?

So now they get to kick a field goal to take Tennessee to OVERTIME?

I wonder what temporary service the Music City Bowl went to for the referees? What conference did these folks come from?

I'm not a Tennessee fan. But, I feel bad for Coach Dooley and his band of Orange. Hope 2011 turns out better!

Kiffin Set a PACing for the West Coast

One and done. Young Mr. Lane Kiffin, former head coach of the University of Tennessee, decided that it is easier to exist in a football conference that doesn't have a Championship Game. After barely a year he packed his bags and ran from Rocky Top, it appears that the mighty mouth of the SEC has unvolunteered.


After Pete Carroll, Coach of the USC Trojans, decided that he was on the move to Seattle. Kiffin made the move to a place where you can shoot off your mouth and no one cares.

Can you say scared? After under performing in the Southeastern Conference Kiffin decided that Hollywood was more to his style. All flash and no substance.

Kiffin, your entertaining comments will be missed. You should have stayed with the conference that has won the last four national championships in football. The Ducks and Cardinal are waiting for you.

Celebrating a National Championship at Bama!

Congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide. After the last three years finishing every play, playing the defense of a stone wall, and rebuilding, the University of Alabama Football team has arrived at the pinnacle of the sport. A National Championship! Winners of the BCS National Championship Game in Pasadena, California.

How wonderful that the game was played in the Rose Bowl. Many years ago when the Alabama fight song was written the Rose Bowl was mentioned specifically in the song. See lyrics below.

So, here is yours truly celebrating the win! My thanks to my sister Liz for the giant foam number one.

All the best to Coach Meyer and his family

As an Alabama Football fan my first reaction to the initial news about Coach Urban Meyer was excitement. Our biggest competitor was wrapping it up and leaving!!! It seemed strange but I'd take the good news. You know the saying; don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I'm sure my fellow SEC fans from the Eastern Division of the SEC were just as shocked, but willing to accept the departure. Comments?

Once seeing the press conference today from New Orleans there were questions asked and unanswered. What ever Coach Meyer and his family is dealing with, my hope, it is not serious and doesn't affect his quality of life. You, your family, your team, and fans are in my thoughts and prayers.

Isn't it amazing that all of the professional success in the world is unimportant when family and health come to the forefront. Jobs come and go. Family and health are a one shot deal. Get this wrong and there is no do over or instant replay.

Coach, it is my hope that whatever it is you are dealing with in private, is brief. You have again showed many a life lesson. All the best to you and your family.

Cadet Carlton slays the Commodores

Dad, I hope you were watching football today. Your Cadets beat the Vanderbilt Commodores in overtime!!!. I’m sure you’ve heard already. The question I have, isn’t a Commodore a Navy rank? Not looking to far ahead.

It was nice to see the Golden Knights of the Hudson with a win over an SEC team. Okay, maybe not an SEC powerhouse. But, academically, these folks probably match up closer than any other team.

Cadet Alex Carlton, 186 pound sophomore, from Wilmington, Delaware, kicked a 42 yard field goal in overtime to beat Vandy. The game was played at the Michie Stadium on the West Point campus. Okay, it was close; the field ball did bounce off the upright, but, good is good.

At this point in the season the cadets are 3 and 3. The next team will be Temple in Philadelphia.

I can hear the cheer now. (The rocket!)

SEC Football - Florida wins the National Championship

Congratulations to the University of Florida! The Champions of the Southeastern Conference are now the BCS National Champion.

In Miami, Florida, the Gators took a bite out of the Oklahoma Sooners in the FedEx Bowl Championship Series Game. With a final score of 24 to 14 the Gators under the leadership of Tim "Superman" Tebow won on Thursday evening.

The Florida defense was able to rattle the Heisman Trophy winner and the high scoring Oklahoma Sooner offense. It appears that the Air and Ground game of the of the Gators were able to come out on top.

The defense, a trademark of the Southeastern Conference, was able to keep the Sooners out of the end zone on fourth and inches and with an interception just before the first half. In the second half #35, Ahmad Black, was able to intercept Sam Bradford when #9, Juaquin Ignacious didn't tuck in a catch ending the last serious Oklahoma drive of the game.

Urban Meyer, the Coach of the Gators won his second National Championship with Florida. This is the third National Championship for the University of Florida.

The defensive player of the game was Carlos Dunlop. The offensive player of the game was Tim Tebow with 231 yards passing, 108 yards rushing, and 2 touchdowns. Pictured above, Percy Harvin, was a key offensive threat in the game.

It does appear that the "fourth" best quarterback in the Big 12 was able to win the National Championship.

Iowa State Names New Auburn Football Coach

The fun continues on the prettiest little village on the plains. It appears that this afternoon the Iowa State's Athletic Director announced that Auburn University had hired Iowa State's football coach, Gene Chizik. I cracked up on how the announcement was, or wasn't handled, depending on who you believe.

They have hired a coach who has a record of 6 and 18 in the last two seasons as a head coach. I'm all about going out on a limb but, sawing the limb off the branch behind oneself is what appears to be going on here.

My question. Why would you hire someone who is a defensive coordinator? Wasn't it Auburn's failed attempt of rolling out a new offense that caused the previous coach to get the pink slip? The high school guy didn't work out. But, at least at the level he played he'd won.

Things will be fun in the South Eastern Conference next year with all the new coaches opening day next year should be lots of fun.
