Huh, the party in power in our Government was very good at Monday morning quarterbacking what should have happened with Hurricane Katerine. Now, they have been extremely quiet as the largest environmental crisis in the history of the United States is washing up against the shores of the Gulf Coast.
Once Americans figure out that the vacation spots along the Gulf Coast will be ruined within days. The trivial issues that are being debated in Washington will be moved to the side. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida beaches will be devastated. Oh! that's right these states didn't really vote for the party in charge. So, the lag in responses will not add votes.....
I did find it interesting that an announcement was made that there sound be no more new drilling in American waters. This is a reversal from a couple of months ago when it was the greatest idea since sliced bread. But in the election two years ago it was treated like the plague.
Where is Al Gore, where is Joe Biden, the President, Reid, Pelosi? They sent 3 officials from Washington to help. That's like trying to bale the Titanic with a Dixie cup.
I couldn't believe when I heard on the radio that it could take 3 months to get a response out to plug the 275,000 gallons of oil gushing into the Gulf per day. At that rate, 27,225,000 gallons of oil will be floating in the Gulf. What is BP going to do? It shouldn't be the Coast Guard taking the lead on this. The leader in the White House should use one of his many press conferences to get this fixed.
Who will need healthcare when they lose their jobs from this? There are whole industries, food supplies, vacation spots, sensitive environmental areas that will be destroyed. All the while the federal officials and BP are arguing about the volume of oil leaking into the ocean. Nice.
I'd like to see a plan. Now!

Help us to Prevent - Milk Voice
We have discovered a new ailment that will require a telethon, a ribbon, and a national marketing campaign. It is an ailment called milk voice. I know, your thinking that Louis Pasteur handled everything that deals with Milk.
This occurs only after you have consumed a glass of milk or drained an ice cold milkshake. There is a something that happens that produces weird sounds in your voice. Something happens to your throat.
Our family discovered this ailment after enjoying, on a Thursday evening, some frosted goodies from Sonic. By the way the concept of the Happy Hour at Sonic, is a wonderful money saving event in the middle afternoon. All kinds of cool flavors!
Okay, back to the topic at hand. My lovely spouse decided to talk to the rest of the family after enjoying her chocolate milkshake. The strangest noise, that use to be her voice, was emitting, from her mouth. It sounded like her voice but it wasn't the full volume. It also had a strange wobble in it. At first there was concern. Then the first chuckle and then the full scaled laugh. It is unfortunate but yes, we did, laugh at the expense of one of our own. Family life is a tough place.
Once the source of the strange sound was discovered the group immediately worked to name the ailment. So there in the car, Milk Voice was discovered.
I wonder if a whole family can receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine for a ground breaking discovery. We aren't doctors, but, we have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Kiffin Set a PACing for the West Coast
One and done. Young Mr. Lane Kiffin, former head coach of the University of Tennessee, decided that it is easier to exist in a football conference that doesn't have a Championship Game. After barely a year he packed his bags and ran from Rocky Top, it appears that the mighty mouth of the SEC has unvolunteered.
After Pete Carroll, Coach of the USC Trojans, decided that he was on the move to Seattle. Kiffin made the move to a place where you can shoot off your mouth and no one cares.

Can you say scared? After under performing in the Southeastern Conference Kiffin decided that Hollywood was more to his style. All flash and no substance.
Kiffin, your entertaining comments will be missed. You should have stayed with the conference that has won the last four national championships in football. The Ducks and Cardinal are waiting for you.

A new low! Stealing from a 70 year old!
A friend of mine received a call that she had won the "Publisher's Clearinghouse" Millions. At first, that sounds very exciting. A check was in the mail. Then something happened to the check. Then there was a fee, paid through Western Union, that would free up the check. It has escalated from there. Once the fee was paid the "package" was to be FedEx'ed the next day. Of course. Nothing arrives and there is some other hurdle. It has gone on for weeks.
These crooks are organized. They have people who are pretending to be an international banker from New York City, a Custom's person at the Dallas airport, a Publisher's clearinghouse rep, and another character that calls to provide prize updates. Places like Puerto Rico, Costa Rico, New York City, Dallas, Texas, and Memphis, Tennessee are involved in this intrigue. If this wasn't so hurtful to my friend the creativity shown by the crooks would make a great movie.
What bothers me is that there are a lot of public company names being used in the scam. When each has been contacted they have been polite but haven't helped much. The authorities that have been contacted all think the process is a scam. But, they can't help. Each suggesting we talk to another. My frustration is this can't be the only person in the U.S. facing this dilemma. When you call "Publisher's Clearinghouse" they have two phone options for if you have received a communication or believe you are being scammed! Obviously, not an isolated event.
After escalating from dollars to get the gift it appeared to have stopped. Then a the crooks are back. These folks are calling promising something that isn't coming. Then they propose a solution to get the money paid in back to my friend. But it requires another activity to enrich them.
Suggestions on how to get these people stopped? I would like to personally find the scum bags that are taking advantage of my friend in her 70's.

Iowa State Names New Auburn Football Coach
The fun continues on the prettiest little village on the plains. It appears that this afternoon the Iowa State's Athletic Director announced that Auburn University had hired Iowa State's football coach, Gene Chizik. I cracked up on how the announcement was, or wasn't handled, depending on who you believe.

Welcome to the SEC! Coach.

They have hired a coach who has a record of 6 and 18 in the last two seasons as a head coach. I'm all about going out on a limb but, sawing the limb off the branch behind oneself is what appears to be going on here.
My question. Why would you hire someone who is a defensive coordinator? Wasn't it Auburn's failed attempt of rolling out a new offense that caused the previous coach to get the pink slip? The high school guy didn't work out. But, at least at the level he played he'd won.
Welcome to the SEC! Coach.Things will be fun in the South Eastern Conference next year with all the new coaches opening day next year should be lots of fun.
Good Luck Auburn.

Congress Goes Crazy
There was a four page bill that left the White House last week to bail out the US economy that was melting down. The Administration said we have to do something, and soon, so the bill is sent to the Senate and the US House of Representatives, our Congress.
The first version of the bill was voted down. The reason wasn't clear until yesterday.
The Senate decided Wednesday to vote on the bill that was over 300 pages in length. Yes, the four page bail out bill was now bigger than half a ream of paper, stuffed with enough pork to make Jimmy Dean happy.
The House was also taking up the process of stuffing the bail out bill with more pork, you know, A million here. a half billion there, just for friends. On Wednesday afternoon the bill was now 451 pages and most of the people being asked to vote on the thing hadn't even read the whole bill. Gee, isn't this what caused the financial problem in the first place. People not reading the fine print on the documents they signed. OH! are we repeating the same thing just on a much more expensive and grander scale?
Oh! and by the way, it appears that the "Do Nothing Congress" under the leadership of both parties was in the process of trying to change their image. They weren't doing nothing! They had opened up the National pocket book and they were a spending. Here piggy, come and get it.....
The money was flowing. A small wooden Arrow Manufacturer in Myrtle Point, Oregon will receive $2,000,000 for inner city archery programs. The Rum Producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will receive $192,000,000.
The usually vocal Hollywood producers will receive $478 Million Dollars. I wonder if Michael Moore will do an investigation movie of this? Nope, he and Oprah are getting their government handout.
Don't forget the fat cat NASCAR Red Necks. You know, the good old boys. They will receive $100 Million dollars to repave the tracks they own, and accelerate the depreciation of the tracks, saving them money on current taxes. I'm sure this will be passed on to the fans in lower ticket and concession prices. That must be the logic in Congress.
For the first time in my life I agree with Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Leader, "this is a blight on Congress." He was talking about the no vote on the first bail out. He is correct on this deal being a blight on Congress just add the rest of the country to the comment.
Let's not leave anyone out. American Samoa will be receiving Millions in Economic Development. The Wool Research Fund is to receive money. The Coal producers are receiving tax breaks, dollars, credits, and export assistance. Don't forget the Wind Energy credits. Who was being bailed out?
It is time to find out who voted for this bill. And simply vote them out. The Members of Congress must have been giving the breaks to set up their future employment.
I am contacting my representatives and Senators today to let them know I am voting for none of the above. Regardless of political party I will be working to defeat them for being chronically Stupid. This was a Pork event, not a bail out of Main Street or Wall Street.
By the way, who will pay for this hand out of epic proportions? The same people who are putting the money in the system to pay for it now. The Middle class of America. If the people in Congress would look out the window or actually meet with real Americans they might find out that those are the people losing the jobs. So, if they don't have a job, they can't pay taxes, if they can't pay taxes, then Congress will make up the money, and...see the circular logic...we keep doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.
I can't believe it. The bail out is what Congress did. They tried to bail out so they could get reelected in November.
Contact your representative today. Ask if they really read the bill? Ask if they are proud of their work? They signed it. So, let's hold them responsible for their actions.
Please send this to others.

It is the Economy Stupids
The World Economy is shaking. For some, this is an event that can be used as a political hot potato to be pitched back and forth. Others are using this as a spectator sport so they have some news to report. Some have no idea what is taking place around them.
Instead of people making this political they should begin to understand the implications of what is happening and the connections around the world. It is not all about greed. It is not all Wall Street. Much of what we are watching has taken place on Main Street and down the street from where we live.
The oversight that was to be put in place was designed when the trading and banking systems came in person to a window with a slip of paper. Today the trades and decisions happen in milliseconds, twenty four hours a day all around the world.
This started in the sub prime market. Then the capital markets. Small businesses are looking for credit. The fundamental building blocks of our economy are being thrown around like children's toys.
Technology has driven productivity. However, it appears to have moved so quickly that the markets are unsure of who owns what to whom.
Imagine. A large financial institution on Wall Street failed. A bank in Asia is shaking because it loaned large sums of money to that institution. Countries around the world today were putting dollars into the system so that their economy would not .
Our economy is shaking. Our nations comfort and security is at risk. It is time for serious people to step forward with serious solutions to make this country, our citizens, and our way of life sound.

Travel and Luggage
I have watched the news recently with interest as the airlines have announced large losses and complained that the cause of the loss is due to the large sums of money they spend on jet fuel. I would like to advance another reason for the loss of money. It's called customers and luggage.
On three recent trips, within the month, the airlines have made luggage decisions that were not in the best interest of of the customer. In one case American Airlines decided that the bags should be routed to a city that was not the same as the traveler. The bags left the airport before the traveler was even at the gate. On the second occasion Continential, decided that the bags would come to the airport 3 hours after the passenger arrived. On the third instance, Delta, the bag arrived a day after the passenger. I guess I keep hoping to find one who can get it right.
I know. From the airlines point of view it is only one bag and one passenger. The counter employees of the airlines have all been briefed to say, "We handle millions of bags per day, so yours was the problem." That would be comforting except that there are usually 5 to 7 customers per flight. All are told to call a useless 800 number that can't track the luggage past the major airports. The airlines then indicate the lost luggage must be because of something you, the traveler, did.
This logic is fabulous. We, the airline, will do what we want that is convenient for our business, if the bags don't arrive, well, we have lots of work, and then had you, the customer, not booked on a full flight or even carried on your luggage it wouldn't have been lost or delayed. Classic.
These are the same airlines that are complaining that more people are carrying on to the flights over sized luggage that slows down the loading process. The airline attendants openly mock the people that are bring their luggage, carry-on, to the flights. Now, mind you, the airline employees get to do the same thing.
The cost factor for the airline is the bag delivery service that they employ to deliver after the fact all of the loss, misrouted, or delayed bags. Very amazing. Last week this guy had over 15 bags that he was to deliver in a two hour period. Mind you I live over 90 minutes away from the airport.
These airlines are also feel the need to blame the government for the level of service they have to deliver. Why do they have to deliver the stupid safety briefing? Who hasn't clipped together a seat belt?
The amazing thing is that the airline management teams are collecting millions in bonuses and perks for running the business. Unbelievable.
If the rest of us treated our customers this way we would be run out of business.
So, they love to fly.....it just doesn't show!

Ever Had a Rough Day at Work? Its Not What You Are Expecting!
Last week I was headed into the sweat shop, my affectionate name for my office. I was thinking about the day ahead, peeking at my TREO for e-mail, making cellphone calls to friends and family, and just getting my game face on for the day. All of a sudden a car comes shooting from the turn lane into my lane, back over to the far right lane then straightened up to begin moving along. I couldn't believe how poorly executed that entry into traffic had been performed.
At the next light my game prep for the day is interrupted by the slowest person to make a left hand turn in the history of driving. I know, that sounds harsh, I'm sure when the Romans tried to turn their chariots it might have taken some time and skill. Plus the horses were I bet at times a handful. But the person ahead of me at the light. Oh! My goodness.
My e-mail dings. Ah! something to distract me from focusing on the person who still hasn't turned to the left. As I look up it appears there is a car coming in the opposite direction 5 blocks up. So, they will have to wait through the light again to turn. (Let's focus, be one with yourself, go to your happy place. Goose Fraba!)
The e-mail carries news that someone who was suppose to be providing support to a project of mine at work is defying the laws of nature. The status report provided electronically through the modern technology that they are actually going in reverse on the project progress.
All of a sudden it hits me. I am less than 3 blocks from my office and I am in a full blown, snooty, bad mood. And the day started out so nicely. What in the world happened.
So now that I am in full scale funk my lovely spouse calls to "chat" on the phone. I call it chatting when she calls and would like to engage in adult conversation after being surrounded by little curtain climbers all morning in the race to wake, feed, dress, press, scrub, and herd to the bus. Anyway, since I'm in the lovely mood the call isn't what spouse expects. I'm short, to the point, and quick to get off the phone. You know, since I'm not a happy camper all of the other campers within the range of Busy Dad are going to have a little bit of my version of sunshine sent their direction.
Okay, stage is set. Someone up stairs, and I mean the big upstairs, wanted to let me know not to take my little world to seriously. I also think it was a quick reminder about let's just get over one's self.
I step from the car, grab my computer bag, clip on the prerequisite name tag, shut the door and begin the walk toward my opportunity to live the dream for another day. As one of the guys at work says, LTD, Living the Dream.
After about three steps I begin to laugh. Not the going postal, people should hide or the Hannibal Lecter laugh. But the big, Lucy Ball type laugh that just comes from the deepest part of your heart. The cause you ask:
Take a look.
Yep, you saw it. I have arrived at work with two different color shoes on. So much for the trip to pitty party and dump on everyone day. This is just damn funny.

There is a moment of panic as I try to determine if there are any big possibly career enhancing meetings or is this a faux pas that may slide in under the radar. I think you know the answer to that.
I immediately call the spouse to make up for my earlier call. Then share the story. There is laughter. Not because I have said anything, but because she knows why I am calling. She has the opposite of the pair of shoes I am wearing sitting on the floor of our bedroom looking back up at her. She knows. She offers to bring the replacement shoe to work. Oh! no. I have to experience the if you take yourself to seriously then you get what you deserve moment for the full day.
Mood improves immediately.
Throughout the day the mistake is discussed and comments are made. It appears that another of my colleagues does this trick on a regular basis with socks and shoes. One upped again!
All that said it still gets better. A member of my team looks over the situation and she actually asks the next question. Do they walk different? Well being a practicing member of the IASA's (that is the International Association of Smart A**es) I said, without missing a beat, "the left shoe keeps wanting to walk off to the left and the other one, keeps wanting to go in circles looking for its mate.
Obviously, others don't find me as funny and entertaining as I find myself.
The point. Don't take yourself to seriously. Someone might be watching and provide you with the potential solution to your funk of the day moment. The day was lots of fun and very productive.

He who lives in Glass Houses.....
Isn't that interesting. You seemed to want everyone else to play by the rules. You used your political office to bully people. What is it about being a Democratic Governor? ( It must be a right wing conspiracy!)
Political Lesson:
He who lives in glass houses shouldn't run hoes! or was it throw stones?

I'm Irrelevant! - So Says Target
"Target to the blogosphere: you're irrelevant." According to an article written by Michael Barbaro, from the New York Times, January 27, a member of the PR department at Target responded to a fellow blogger in a less than cordial manner. As reported in the article the bulls eye retailer missed the mark on this one. The representative of the company, a talking head, indicated that Tar-ja doesn't respond to non-traditional media outlets.
Okay, so the beef was over someone who wanted to point out to the Big Red Retailer that they diagreed with some pictures in an advertisement. Okay, disagree and thank them. End of story. But, to take a dump on the bloggers of the world? Show me that someone based in Minneapolis doesn't understand that electricity, the wheel, fire, and the internet have been invented and used! OH! Mr. Gore, you need to let Tar-jay know that right after you invented the internet that Tipper invented the Blog.
With retail sales not going well I don't think the "red one" understands the power of the irrelevant. I plan to let my local store manager know that I'm irrelevant as I take my sales elsewhere. I've even asked my spouse, and other fellow irrelevants to shop elsewhere.
Irrelevants of the world unite!
