A "Real American" jokes about Birth Certificate

I am a “Real American” - was the music playing just before the President Barack Obama’s speech on Saturday evening at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. My access to this group was by watching on C-Spann, because I couldn’t sleep.

The President’s birth certificate was in prominent display at the White House Correspondents Dinner via video. The President quipped, a couple of times, “My fellow American’s.” Underlining, Obama’s now confirmed citizenship. The annual dinner that started back in 1914 brings the members of the press that cover politics and the president to gather raising money for scholarships to journalism students. And to have some fun at each others expense. This year was no exception.

There were jokes about C-Span, the funding of NPR, a number of shots at the 2012 GOP potential presidential nominees and a number of remarks about Donald Trump. The President was clearly making hay about the Mr. Trump’s views on his birth certificate. Donald was in the audience and clearly had tired of the remarks.

The comedian speaking at the dinner was Seth Meyer, the head writer from Saturday Night Live and a fake newsman. How appropriate! I mean about the fake newsman. He continued piling on “The Donald.” Topics included the Donald’s hair, his accent, and his plan to run for President. Following the dinner, Meyer’s Tweeted, that he was awaiting Trump’s reaction to the jokes.

Meyer’s did push into the Administration. Saying he wished that the 2008 version of Barack Obama was around. This prompted laughs from the audience. Meyer’s complimented the First Lady then said, “Mr. President you have aged. Maybe you should start smoking again!” WOW! Meyer’s was funny and clean.

It was clear to me that the past few years of being dogged by the question about the birth certificate have caused the President some discomfort. The amount of criticism directed at the opposition and Trump specifically showed in the remarks.

Glad to hear we finally have what should have been presented, to the American people, at the start of the campaign process in 2007.

When will the mess be fixed? Hello, Washington?

Huh, the party in power in our Government was very good at Monday morning quarterbacking what should have happened with Hurricane Katerine. Now, they have been extremely quiet as the largest environmental crisis in the history of the United States is washing up against the shores of the Gulf Coast.

Once Americans figure out that the vacation spots along the Gulf Coast will be ruined within days. The trivial issues that are being debated in Washington will be moved to the side. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida beaches will be devastated. Oh! that's right these states didn't really vote for the party in charge. So, the lag in responses will not add votes.....

I did find it interesting that an announcement was made that there sound be no more new drilling in American waters. This is a reversal from a couple of months ago when it was the greatest idea since sliced bread. But in the election two years ago it was treated like the plague.

Where is Al Gore, where is Joe Biden, the President, Reid, Pelosi? They sent 3 officials from Washington to help. That's like trying to bale the Titanic with a Dixie cup.

I couldn't believe when I heard on the radio that it could take 3 months to get a response out to plug the 275,000 gallons of oil gushing into the Gulf per day. At that rate, 27,225,000 gallons of oil will be floating in the Gulf. What is BP going to do? It shouldn't be the Coast Guard taking the lead on this. The leader in the White House should use one of his many press conferences to get this fixed.

Who will need healthcare when they lose their jobs from this? There are whole industries, food supplies, vacation spots, sensitive environmental areas that will be destroyed. All the while the federal officials and BP are arguing about the volume of oil leaking into the ocean. Nice.

I'd like to see a plan. Now!

Wow! The Yankees get it right Blue No More!

I'm not talking baseball. I'm talking politics. It appears that the electorate in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have decided to elect a Republican to the United States Senate. It appears they are tired of being blue!

On the eve of President Obama's first anniversary in the White House it appears that his party and that of Senator Harry Reid and Representative Nancy Pelosi are receiving a set back. They are seeing red! Not since 1972 have the residents of Massachusetts sent a Republican to the United States Senate.

Not claiming that the Red folks have it right. It just makes the blue folks stop the back room deals. This makes Mr. Nelson's deal in Nebraska a mute point.

Quoting someone last January, " the ground is shifting beneath the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long," well, at least the last year.

I do applaud the work in concept to make change. I just don't agree with the reduced access, the gaming of the answers, and the deals to shut out those with different opinions.

My thanks to the citizens of Massachusetts. Maybe there is something to the Red Sox after all. My thanks because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.

There maybe something to the Massachusetts Miracle.

Election is over. Time to deliver

My fellow Americans. I am so glad the election is finally over. I have heard enough talk from politicians to fill two life times. I am thrilled the new resident for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has been selected. The phone calls, the ads, the emails, and the door tags will stop. Now it is time to deliver.

To me this election has reminded me of the dog that runs off the porch to catch the car. Well, Mr. Obama, now that you caught hold of the bumper what do you plan to do with it?

It is wonderful to see the number of citizens that came out to vote. It was encouraging to see the number but disappointing at the same time. There are about 250 Million Americans. It appears that just over 100 Million voted. That is 150 Million south of the total.

The Congress is going to have to do something now. It is somewhat perplexing to me that so many incumbents that didn't do anything last term have been given the chance to return. The last session was one of the lamest in history.

Anyway, I'm sure the ads will start again in a few months. The donation requests will begin soon for the 2010 election.

Congress Goes Crazy

There was a four page bill that left the White House last week to bail out the US economy that was melting down. The Administration said we have to do something, and soon, so the bill is sent to the Senate and the US House of Representatives, our Congress.

The first version of the bill was voted down. The reason wasn't clear until yesterday.

The Senate decided Wednesday to vote on the bill that was over 300 pages in length. Yes, the four page bail out bill was now bigger than half a ream of paper, stuffed with enough pork to make Jimmy Dean happy.

The House was also taking up the process of stuffing the bail out bill with more pork, you know, A million here. a half billion there, just for friends. On Wednesday afternoon the bill was now 451 pages and most of the people being asked to vote on the thing hadn't even read the whole bill. Gee, isn't this what caused the financial problem in the first place. People not reading the fine print on the documents they signed. OH! are we repeating the same thing just on a much more expensive and grander scale?

Oh! and by the way, it appears that the "Do Nothing Congress" under the leadership of both parties was in the process of trying to change their image. They weren't doing nothing! They had opened up the National pocket book and they were a spending. Here piggy, come and get it.....

The money was flowing. A small wooden Arrow Manufacturer in Myrtle Point, Oregon will receive $2,000,000 for inner city archery programs. The Rum Producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will receive $192,000,000.

The usually vocal Hollywood producers will receive $478 Million Dollars. I wonder if Michael Moore will do an investigation movie of this? Nope, he and Oprah are getting their government handout.

Don't forget the fat cat NASCAR Red Necks. You know, the good old boys. They will receive $100 Million dollars to repave the tracks they own, and accelerate the depreciation of the tracks, saving them money on current taxes. I'm sure this will be passed on to the fans in lower ticket and concession prices. That must be the logic in Congress.

For the first time in my life I agree with Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate Leader, "this is a blight on Congress." He was talking about the no vote on the first bail out. He is correct on this deal being a blight on Congress just add the rest of the country to the comment.

Let's not leave anyone out. American Samoa will be receiving Millions in Economic Development. The Wool Research Fund is to receive money. The Coal producers are receiving tax breaks, dollars, credits, and export assistance. Don't forget the Wind Energy credits. Who was being bailed out?

It is time to find out who voted for this bill. And simply vote them out. The Members of Congress must have been giving the breaks to set up their future employment.

I am contacting my representatives and Senators today to let them know I am voting for none of the above. Regardless of political party I will be working to defeat them for being chronically Stupid. This was a Pork event, not a bail out of Main Street or Wall Street.

By the way, who will pay for this hand out of epic proportions? The same people who are putting the money in the system to pay for it now. The Middle class of America. If the people in Congress would look out the window or actually meet with real Americans they might find out that those are the people losing the jobs. So, if they don't have a job, they can't pay taxes, if they can't pay taxes, then Congress will make up the money, and...see the circular logic...we keep doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.

I can't believe it. The bail out is what Congress did. They tried to bail out so they could get reelected in November.

Contact your representative today. Ask if they really read the bill? Ask if they are proud of their work? They signed it. So, let's hold them responsible for their actions.

Please send this to others.

It is the Economy Stupids

The World Economy is shaking. For some, this is an event that can be used as a political hot potato to be pitched back and forth. Others are using this as a spectator sport so they have some news to report. Some have no idea what is taking place around them.

Instead of people making this political they should begin to understand the implications of what is happening and the connections around the world. It is not all about greed. It is not all Wall Street. Much of what we are watching has taken place on Main Street and down the street from where we live.

The oversight that was to be put in place was designed when the trading and banking systems came in person to a window with a slip of paper. Today the trades and decisions happen in milliseconds, twenty four hours a day all around the world.

This started in the sub prime market. Then the capital markets. Small businesses are looking for credit. The fundamental building blocks of our economy are being thrown around like children's toys.

Technology has driven productivity. However, it appears to have moved so quickly that the markets are unsure of who owns what to whom.

Imagine. A large financial institution on Wall Street failed. A bank in Asia is shaking because it loaned large sums of money to that institution. Countries around the world today were putting dollars into the system so that their economy would not .

Our economy is shaking. Our nations comfort and security is at risk. It is time for serious people to step forward with serious solutions to make this country, our citizens, and our way of life sound.

The Checks are in the Mail - April 28 and May 9

In the words of President John F. Kennedy, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. The George W. Bush corollary is; And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country has sent you in your direct deposit or mail box - ask what you can do for your country’s economy. Or in the words of Rod Tidwell, played by Cuba Gooding Jr., in the movie Jerry McGuire, Show me the Money!
On Monday, April 28, 2008 the Treasury Department will begin delivering the first tax rebates by direct deposit, called the Economic Stimulus Payments. During the first week alone nearly 7.7 million Americans will receive their tax rebates electronically. Then on May 9th, the IRS will begin mailing checks to millions more across America.

By this summer, the Treasury Department expects to have sent rebates to about 130 million American households. These rebates will provide eligible Americans with payments of up to $600 a person, $1,200 for couples, and $300 per child.

According to President Bush, “If you've already filed your income tax return your rebate is on the way. Even if you don't owe any income taxes you may still be eligible for a check, but you need to file a form with the IRS. And it's not too late to do so. Now, you can find out information as to how to proceed by calling your local IRS office, or go to the IRS website.”
We, the government, want to make sure everyone who's eligible for a check gets one on a timely basis. This money is going to help Americans offset the high prices we're seeing at the gas pump and at the grocery store, and it will also give our economy a boost to help us pull out of this economic slowdown.

My question to my fellow bloggers, what do you plan to do with your “extra” money? Paying bills, making an unplanned purchase, or saving the money?

He who lives in Glass Houses.....

Elliott,
Isn't that interesting. You seemed to want everyone else to play by the rules. You used your political office to bully people. What is it about being a Democratic Governor? ( It must be a right wing conspiracy!)
Political Lesson:
He who lives in glass houses shouldn't run hoes! or was it throw stones?

I'm Irrelevant! - So Says Target

"Target to the blogosphere: you're irrelevant." According to an article written by Michael Barbaro, from the New York Times, January 27, a member of the PR department at Target responded to a fellow blogger in a less than cordial manner. As reported in the article the bulls eye retailer missed the mark on this one. The representative of the company, a talking head, indicated that Tar-ja doesn't respond to non-traditional media outlets.

Okay, so the beef was over someone who wanted to point out to the Big Red Retailer that they diagreed with some pictures in an advertisement. Okay, disagree and thank them. End of story. But, to take a dump on the bloggers of the world? Show me that someone based in Minneapolis doesn't understand that electricity, the wheel, fire, and the internet have been invented and used! OH! Mr. Gore, you need to let Tar-jay know that right after you invented the internet that Tipper invented the Blog.

With retail sales not going well I don't think the "red one" understands the power of the irrelevant. I plan to let my local store manager know that I'm irrelevant as I take my sales elsewhere. I've even asked my spouse, and other fellow irrelevants to shop elsewhere.

Irrelevants of the world unite!

Political Bumber Sticker - Suggest yours

The following bumper sticker has been making the rounds on the Internet. It made me laugh.I'm now thinking up references for the others running in the race for President that can be used. (i.e. Vote for the Law & Order candidate, Fred "08)

Let's keep it clean. Use the comments to suggest your bumper stickers for the folks in the 2008 Presidential race.
If we have to keep hearing about the primary process that doesn't make a difference let's at least have some fun. Comment your ideas today.

News Flash - The French Like Us

Happy, happy, joy, joy. Watching the news this week on the political front helped me to understand the answer to the question, how low can you go? Our Commander in Chief was all about making sure the world knows we have a renewed friendship with the French. This is what I meant by rock bottom.

All due respect to the French people. Not that the truly self absorbed need it. But history should teach us a lesson about the French. Each time we become friends it costs us! Then they repay us by dumping on us. Beware!

I was glad to see this interaction with the French allowed a number in Congress to find something to do! The House and Senate Dining Rooms had renamed their bits of potato that accompany a hamburger to "Freedom Fries" when the sour puss of France wouldn't play well five years ago. Well this week in Congress have flip flopped, surprise, we are back to French Fries.

Glad to see we have made great progress. Lafayette, would be proud. Liberty, Democracy and French Fried Potatoes.

Political Rant

What in the World are they doing in Washington? My fellow Americans, it is time to clean House and Senate! This is like a week of watching another planet.

We have Senators that are being investigated by the FBI, there is another who can’t decided whether he did it or not, and we have a third who is under investigation. The Senate Ethics Committee goes so slow it moves backwards.

The House is not Legislating. Executive isn’t getting it done and the Judicial, that system is broken. It is like a Constitutional three stooges. Each time one of the talking heads that represents one of the bodies of government speaks I can almost Larry, Moe and Curly, poking each other in the eye, smacking each other on the head or just messing up another fine situation. (Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk)

To recap, this group hasn’t decided on its operating budget, they have decided to tell other countries that what happened in their past was genocide, and they faced off over a program for children’s health care that hasn’t been budgeted for and at this rate it will expire in a couple of weeks.

The worst part of this is watching the cast of characters that wants to run the Executive Branch in the up coming election. It is like picking the last kids for dodge ball when you were a kid. If they were good it would be easy. We are actually trying to figure out who can do the least amount of damage.

We need to develop a coalition form of government. Either, Or just isn’t a choice. Maybe Richard Pryor’s Movie Brewster’s Millions developed the best option – Vote! None of the Above!
